St. Anne's Primary School

History of St Annes Primary School

St. Anne’s Primary School is a DEIS band 1 vertical primary school located in the heart of the community in Fettercairn.

The school was founded in 1979 under the Principalship of Mrs. Edna Murphy. The following year, because of the large enrolment figures, the school was split into St. Anne’s J.N.S. and St. Anne’s S.N.S. under the Principalships of Mrs. Edna Murphy and Mr. Tom Cuskelly respectively. St Anne’s school flourished under the guidance of these two Principals.

In October 2002 Mr. Cuskelly retired from his teaching career and the then Deputy Principal, Mr. John Fitzpatrick took over as Principal of St. Anne’s S.N.S.

In 2003, both senior and junior schools amalgamated into the new St. Anne’s P.S. at which time Mrs. Murphy retired and Mr. Fitzpatrick assumed the role of Principal of the newly amalgamated school which he guided and steered until his retirement in 2010.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was succeeded by the current Principal Mrs. Mary Cullen. All three Principals following the retirement of Mrs. Murphy came from the teaching staff of St. Anne’s and ensured a continuity of knowledge and familiarity with the school and the wider community.

St. Anne’s has seen many changes throughout our 40+ years but still maintains close ties with our families and continues to serve the children of Fettercairn and beyond. No doubt there will be many changes ahead for our school in today’s changing world but we in St. Anne’s will change with them and continue to be a living, vibrant part of Fettercairn, serving the pupils and families as we have done for the last 40+ years.
