St. Anne's Primary School

Principals Welcome

Failte romhaibh go dti St. Anne’s P. S. Fettercairn.

As Principal of St. Anne’s and on behalf of the BOM, staff pupils and parents of our school, I am delighted to welcome you to our new school website.

We are a vertical primary school with a Catholic ethos catering to the children of our local community and beyond. We are a multicultural school embracing all nationalities and religious beliefs with a strong emphasis on catering to special education needs pupils.

Our school has 32 teachers and 12 SNAs with 17 mainstream classes and an ASD unit (The Haven) which was opened in September 2021.

Our aim is to make our school a safe, friendly and welcoming school where our pupils are taught to value themselves and their community as well as to perform to the optimum of their academic ability.

We in St. Anne’s ensure that every child is valued with their own individual and unique talents. Our goal is to provide a holistic approach to education so that these individual talents are nurtured and can develop. To this end, our dedicated staff provide guidance and tuition in both the curriculum and a variety of extracurricular areas such as basketball, soccer, GAA, swimming and chess to name but a few.

We are a School Completion school, and we have the services of two project workers who assist our pupils in the areas of self-esteem and independence. Recognising the importance of attendance and punctuality, they also help in these areas.

For the past four years, we have been part of a DES/NCSE pilot project (The In-School Therapy Project) where we have a SPLT and an OT assigned to our school who work with staff on class and whole-school initiatives and programmes. This has been proven to be very beneficial to our school and pupils. We also have the services of our own SPLT and Play-therapist for a number of years now. Both therapists attend school one day per week and provide therapy for individual children identified by staff and care Team as being in need of these therapies.

All our pupils can avail of free school lunches provided by Glanmore who have won numerous awards and accolades in the area of food safety and excellence. The service and quality they provide is of excellent standards.

All these initiatives gel together in the daily workings of our school where we all work together to ensure that the years spent in St. Anne’s will be the best, the most enjoyable and the most productive for all our pupils – years that they will look back on with fondness in later life.

To achieve this goal, we are very cognisant of you the parents and guardians. We recognise you as the primary educators of your children and without your help and support all our efforts would be in vain. In recognition of this fact, St. Anne’s has always maintained an open-door policy with parents and guardians. We recognise and embrace you as an integral part of our school team. We constantly strive to keep the partnership of staff, parents and management open, welcoming and acceptable to all. To facilitate this important communication, we are using Aladdin Connect as our forum. The app is easily downloaded and provides information about all school activities as well as providing instant two-way communication between school and home. I am available and happy to meet with parents and guardians, at a time suitable to you, to discuss any aspect of school life. The fact that many current parents and grandparents are past pupils of our school bears testament to the positive and amicable home/school relationship developed and maintained over the years a fact of which we are very proud. We are equally proud to count five of our past pupils among the current staff and to have a number of staff whose children are past pupils – testament to these strong bonds between our school and our community and a partnership that we hope to continue, and indeed, strengthen as we move forward together. We hope that the development of this new school website will further strengthen our school community whilst also helping to enlighten and inform both current and future parents of St. Anne’s
